Anxiety
Almost 5% of Americans have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (Melchert. Foundations of Professional Psychology). I assume this is also true for Canadians. The study of the causes and treatments for anxiety have been around as long as the study of psychology. We counsellors deal with clients who present with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and we have learned that the research data on anxiety strongly argues for a preventive orientation to dealing with anxiety, including a lot of attention being given to a client’s behavior and lifestyle.
If my client tells me he/she is anxious, my initial questions revolve around exploring the cause of the anxiety. Of course, if a client doesn’t know why he/she is anxious, we start exploring to find the root of the anxiety. Following those questions, I teach my clients ways to reduce their anxiety, especially focusing on how to live without anxiety’s negative effects.
Anxiety is a complex issue and it varies greatly from person to person. Call me. Let’s talk anxiety.
