What Kind of Therapy Do I Need?
Do I Need Art Therapy? Narrative Therapy? Dialectical Behaviour Therapy?
As a counsellor I use a variety of counselling techniques in my sessions, depending on the needs of the client. Some clients will benefit from the use of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), some prefer to examine their issues through the lens of Existential Therapy and yet others like to role play using Gestalt Therapy methods. Most clients require me to draw a little bit from all the therapeutic methods I learned while I was completing my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology and which I practice regularly with my clients. Regardless of the therapy I use, my counselling style is person-centered, non-judgmental, empathetic and supportive. Client confidentiality is assured and vital. While I am searching for ways to help my clients with their problems, I sometimes feel like I’m a jigsaw puzzle builder: there’s a piece that fits into this problem over here from this therapy and over there is another piece to try from this other therapy...
