Work Insecurity and Disease

Worry about work, or worry about losing your job, causes disease. That’s a strong statement, which has been proven to be correct. US studies showed that the risk of stroke and heart attacks in 50 – 60-year-olds doubles following job loss. Multiple job losses raise heart attack risks as much as cigarettes, alcohol and high blood pressure. Even the fear of losing your job is a risk of ill health, as are jobs with deadlines, fast pace and heavy workload.
Stress causes inflammation in your body. Inflammation causes a range of diseases, from autoimmune conditions to heart disease, cancer and depression.
