On being vibrant
I was once asked to give an example of a vibrant senior in my family and not only could I not find any left alive, I didn’t feel all that vibrant myself. That said, I have had a young person say to me “You are an inspiration, taking a course like that at your age”, talking about my MA in counselling psychology and that made me think I could take myself as an example of a vibrant senior after all. I am giving my brain cognitive exercise and as studies have proven, we seniors can learn just as well as our younger peers (Clark, Freedberg, Hazeltine & Voss, 2015). If despite my physical handicaps I can somehow find a way to add physical exercise to my life, I am “doubling down” on the good I am doing for my body and my brain (Joubert and Chainay, 2018).
If you are a senior, how can you add cognitive and physical exercise to your life?
