Living Your Best Life

I wrote about Dave to inspire seniors to be physically active, but by doing so, I side-lined a large portion of the senior population. There are many seniors who cannot be physically active. I include myself in this category. How would I counsel a disabled senior to live a healthy, fulfilled life? Using disabled role models as an example, I would remind them gently that life is not only about being physical. There are ways to live a fulfilling life in the spiritual and mental realms.

My good friend Frieda is an example of someone who cannot be physically active. Frieda is bed-ridden with MS and suffers from depression. She spends her days watching TV. Care-givers come four times a day to her house to feed her, toilet her and bathe her. My challenge counselling Frieda is to guide her toward finding a way to live a happy, fulfilling life DESPITE her condition. The questions I have for Frieda include, “How can you live your best life?” and “How can you make your life matter to you?”
