Autoimmunity
Our immune systems are supposed to defend our bodies, fight off germs, viruses and other hostile attackers. When our immune system turns on the body it’s supposed to defend and instead becomes an attacker itself, we end up with an autoimmune disease. Scleroderma, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, muscular dystrophy are some of the better known autoimmune conditions. None of these conditions has a “cure”. They are all degenerative conditions, i.e. you don’t get better after diagnosis. Best help modern medicine can offer the sufferers is symptom suppression, or removal of the affected body part.
Autoimmune diseases are characterized by inflammation of tissues, organs and body parts. They are considered idiopathic, of unknown origin. They are also showing up more frequently in our modern world. This rules out genetic factors as the only cause and leaves us looking at environmental factors as an additional cause (Maté. The Myth of Normal. 2022).
