Anxious Adolescents
Looking specifically at anxiety in adolescents, I learned that a counseling psychologist must regard the whole of the adolescent’s development as part of a complex system. This system includes the functioning of the adolescent’s family, his/her social groups and organizations, school environment and his/her biological development (Melchert 2011). Not only does each of these variables need to be considered separately, but the way each of them interacts with every one of the others needs to be considered as well. This is also true for adults who are experiencing anxiety. Are your social groups, organizations and your family interacting in a manner which supports you?
